My wife, Jean, and I celebrated our 66th wedding anniversary in December., 2009. We were married in Laredo, Texas in 1943 where I was in gunnery training as an Aviation Cadet in the Army Air Corps.
Although she is now confined to a wheelchair, she and I still enjoy our lives together and are proud of our children and grandchildren. We also have two great grandchildren: Keegan, now 2, just joined by Finley, born 7/1/09. Unfortunately, because of the distance and our difficulty in traveling, our involvement with Keegan has been very limited as it will be with Finley.
.
We have lived in Sacramento, CA since 1949 and in the same house since 1954. I had two careers: the first for 30 years with the State of California, primarily the Department of Corrections, and then 20 years as a criminal justice consultant during which time I visited prisons in about 35 states. I retired at the end of 1999. Since then, I have been active in the Mission Oaks Computer Club and the Friends of the Arden Dimick Library as well as gardening, golfing, some genealogy, reading and exploring the world of the computer. I have been going to yoga classes twice a week since the fall of 2006 and have found it a helpful means of increasing physical flexibility and balance. Unfortunately, I have now had to give up golf because of chronic back problems.
Although my health has been good, a major factor in my life is having celiac disease or celiac sprue. which requires a diet free of wheat, rye and barley. Fortunately, Jean is a great cook and has adapted to preparing gluten-free meals with little or no loss of flavor . Because more and more people are being diagnosed with this condition, more and more food products are being made available which meet the dietary restrictions.
